Caryl's reply to your emails:
Caryl,
I am down to 180 lbs!! (I started at 190) I am really
sticking to your program. I just finished the chapters on
fillers and am going to start recopying the info tonite. Now
that I am being so aware of what I eat and really asking
myself if I am truly hungry, I am noticing how much others
eat...tons. Of course I would never say that to anyone. We
went out for Chinese with my parents tonite. I had chicken
with broccoli with brown rice. I had one small portion of the
large serving platter, and left most of the rice on my plate.
My father must have had at least 4 plates filled with food.
He has cardiac disease with a history of quadruple bypass
surgery on 1988. It makes me crazy (it always has) that he
doesn't see what he is eating. I've written him
letters about it in the past to no avail. I guess these are
the personal choices that we all have to live with. It makes
me mad because my two daughters adore him. I don't want
them to miss out on that relationship later in life. I am
also trying to be a good example for my daughers, they are
both normal weight, do not eat when they are truly not
hungry. No just for fun eating!!
Anyway, sorry for rambling. I love drinking hot water, and
have elimiated coffee from my morning routine. I really feel
that I am sleeping better at night now.
Thanks for any advise you may have,
Sincerely,
Cindy C.
Cindy,
Love your comment about loving hot water...and the awareness
that you are sleeping better. Sounds as if you're on a
good path. Rambling fine...shows you're excited..Advice?
I think that you are not the person you were when you began
The Program..When beginning, we tend to do things that look,
um doable, and leave the rest. As long as you are getting a
result you like, you're happy. It would be helpful if you
go over the notes again and again. Sometimes the next reading
gives you something a previous reading didn't carry. Also
in the back third section of the book, there are tons of
repatterning techniques that you might find halpful while
working on the beginning of the book. You're doing find.
Your awareness with your paretns in the Chinese
Restaurant..first rate!!!
Onward and downward,
Caryl
I have just bought your book, "Conquer Your Food
Addiction." One page 2 there is a section on The Program
Way. Does this explain The Program or would it benefit me to
read that book first? I am a compulsive eater and this is the
first book I have seen on the subject. For the first time it
seems you have written something that will help me and I can
do. Thank you.
There is the book which explains The Program. I teach The
Caryl Ehrlich Program, one-on-one in my offices in Manhattan.
Always curious where someone finds the book and a little
about yourself. Where do you live? married? single? working?
etc. Let me know any way I can help you.
Caryl
Hi Caryl,
I have been trying for years to control my weight. You name
the diet and I have tried it. I have a lot of success with
the low carb diet but have found it difficult to stay on when
I am under a lot of stress. The last 2 years have been very
stressful for me because of family issues. I have lost and
gained who knows how many thousands of pounds. It finally
occurred to me that I must be a food addict. I crave and eat
food even when I am physically full and I do not know how to
stop it. I have considered gastric by pass surgery, however I
think I would still eat even after being physically full just
like I do now.
Please help me
Sincerely,
Bryan W.

Bryan,
Did you find this email address by going to my website
ConquerFood.com ? Have you read the book Conquer Your Food
Addiction? The book might shed some light on the addiction of
compulsive overeating and offer many tips and tactics to help
you get on the right track. This is a progressive disease and
the food will increase in portion and frequency of usage
until you get a handle on things you can do. The book offers
many tried and true techniques that you will find helpful. .
Just curious to know a little about you. . age? where you
live? How you found the book or website. . Once you have the
terms by reading the book, I'd be happy to add to your
knowledge via emails. Have hope. You can do this.
Enjoy your day,

Dear Caryl,
Just watched your show and I found it very
interesting.I'm proud to be a person that gives up on
habits when they take too much over my life. I smoked and I
quit.I drank coffee and I stopped it. I'm enjoying right
now a NY city life filled with organic goods from Whole Foods
and I love it. My husband has few habits that can't get
out of it:picking the nose and scratching his head. He is
aware that they are very disappointing considering his
professional appearance but under no circumstances he can
stop doing them. I'm asking for your help in coming
eventually with a solution for my husband in order to give up
on his habits. I’m very much willing to help him but I
don’t know anymore how can I do it.Thanks for watching
Changing Habits. . Re your husbands habits, let me quote
Jacob M. Braude when he says: "Consider how hard it is
to change yourself and you'll understand what little
chance you have of trying to change others."

That said, you mention your husband is aware of his habits
but right now he may see no benefit for changing. Perhaps
tracking the frequency of his habits in a three hour period
(for example after dinner until bedtime) by putting a little
tick mark on a piece of paper every time he does something.
These behaviors are progressive and he might not realize
he's doing something every 3 minutes (or whatever). You
also might try distracting him with a question every time he
begins to do one of the habits. That will diminish the number
of times he does the behavior. And lastly, set a goal (if he
wants) and offer a reward if he succeeds. The Goal might be
one entire evening without doing one of the habits. . pick
the one (no pun intended) that is most uncomfortable for you
and work on that one.
Enjoy your day,
Thanks for watching Changing Habits,
Caryl
Hi Caryl,
I live in Salem, New Hampshire. I work as an ad designer for
a local newspaper. The job can be quite stressful
consequently, I reach for foods that give me immediate
gratification (taste, comfort, soothing) - except it is
twofold as I get extreme blacklash -
In addition - at the office there is accessibility of free
food.(weekly pizza parties, sweets, muffins, chocolate)
I've been on the "raw food" approach trying to
combat my health issues (fibromyalagia, sinus problems, etc.)
with not much success. Whenever I stop eating raw foods I
noticed I would binge drastically on specific foods (sweets,
chocolate, dairy).
I've reached a point of saturation in my body - whenever
I eat specific foods - I have an immediate reaction or within
24 hours. I'm trying to find a process of eating that
will work with me not aggravate it - and something that is
livable - most important to improve my health. I believe that
whatever goes in the body is directly related to how one
feels. I've done the medical approach to no avail. I know
all my heath issues can be cured (in time) with what I eat or
don't eat.
I also know my age plays a part. I'm 47. As I've
gotten older my body doesn't react to that of a 20 yr.
old. Many years of on-and-off dieting, smoking, drinking - my
body has taken a toll. I've been able to give up smoking.
Drinking doesn't phase me anymore. Coffee I can no longer
tolerate.
But chocolate and sweets those are my downfalls and the
hardest to give up. Also, I wouldn't give them up if they
didn't physically bother me - as I would have no reason
to.
I found about your book over the internet.
I logged onto google and typed " breaking an addiction
to chocolate" and I believe your website came up as one
of the listings.
So I went to Barnes & Noble to see it they had it in
stock - they didn't so I placed an order. That's it
for now. I hope I could give you some insight. Obviously I
can't give you any feedback regarding your book - but
hopefully - in the future . . . . .
Fey B.
Hi Fey,
Always curious. . where'd you hear about the book?
Where'd you buy it? Where do you live? Is the book
helping? Have you lost weight? You don't have to answer
these questions but it helps me get to know what is working
and not working so I can incorporate that information into
Book2 if I know a little bit about the people that purchased
the first book.
Thanks in advance,
Onward and downward,
Caryl
Hi, Carol, my name is Robert and I bought your book a couple
of months ago and am reading slowly and following The
Program, I love it and I feel it will change my life. I am
about 70 pounds overweight and I have always known that there
was something wrong when I would hide and eat, hide food etc.
I could go on. I am sure you have heard everything by now.
Only until I got older I really started looking at myself and
thinking that there might be something wrong in my head and
not my stomach. I would love to go on and tell you my life
story of weigh gain/loss but I am sure you hear those kind of
storys all the time.
Anyway I have lost 10 pounds so far and am thrilled, I do not
want your book to end, that is maybe why I am reading so
slowly. Thank you so much. Your book is changing my life.

Hi Robert,
Delighted to hear from you . I'm always curious to know
how you heard about the book, where you bought it, the
details. (Are you a male or female.. hard to discern from the
name which could be either). I'm always interested in
these details because, it is easier for me to help with the
right answer.
This is terrfic. . and reading the book slowly is the correct
way to internalize the information. . When finished you will
be a different person. I recommend you read it a second time
to pick up things you might have resisted on the first read.
. You might also be interested in knowing that I am presently
writing Book2. . I've completed inputting it but no need
to edit, and edit again, and again until I'm happy with
the result.
Thanks. it cheers my day to know the book is reaching out.
And if you'd care to tell me in what ways you find the
book helpful. . It might help others.
Enjoy your day,
Onward and downward,
Caryl
Welcome to my blog. I am Caryl Ehrlich, founder of The Caryl
Ehrlich Program, a behavioral approach to weight loss, and
author of Conquer Your Food Addiction. We're working hard
to have this blog help you change your habits in order to
change your weight. Men, women, adults, and children all
suffer with eating disorders. It covers all ages, religions,
nationalities. And if you don't have a problem, someone
you know and/or are related to, does. Let me help you. Let me
know what works and what doesn't work. You may want to
purchase Conquer Your Food Addiction as I'll be using it
as my base for teaching. Ask questions, make comments. Talk
to each other. And I'll try to jump in where I think it
might be helpful. Post as often as you like. Enjoy your
day,
